Welcome, we’re glad you’re here. Our vision echoes the Lord’s prayer: may it be “in the South Bay, as it is in heaven.” We yearn to see people flourishing in Jesus. Join us in the worship of our Lord.
PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
John 16:13
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
John 20:22
Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16
Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.
1 Corinthians 2:12
But the fruit of the Spirit is
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;
against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23
“Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength
is the most confusing, exhausting,
and tedious of all work.
But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit,
then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.”
― Corrie Ten Boom
“The Spirit’s message is never ‘Look at me;
listen to me; come to me; get to know me,’
but always, ‘Look at him, and see his glory;
listen to him and hear his word;
go to him and have life.'”
– J.I. Packer
WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery
to fall back into fear,
but you have received the Spirit of adoption
as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit
that we are children of God.
Romans 8:15-16
Yes I Will
[Verse]
I count on one thing
The same God that never fails
Will not fail me now
You won’t fail me now
In the waiting
The same God who’s never late
Is working all things out
You’re working all things out
[Chorus]
Yes I will, lift You high in the lowest valley
Yes I will, bless Your name
Yes I will, sing for joy when my heart is heavy
All my days, oh, yes I will
[Verse]
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
And I choose to praise
To glorify, glorify
The name of all names
That nothing can stand against
[Chorus]
SONG
Holy Spirit Living Breath of God
[Verse 1]
Holy Spirit, living Breath of God
Breathe new life into my willing soul
Bring the presence of the risen Lord
To renew my heart and make me whole
Cause Your Word to come alive in me
Give me faith for what I cannot see
Give me passion for Your purity
Holy Spirit, breathe new life in me
[Verse 2]
Holy Spirit, come abide within
May Your joy be seen in all I do
Love enough to cover ev’ry sin
In each thought and deed and attitude
Kindness to the greatest and the least
Gentleness that sows the path of peace
Turn my striving into works of grace
Breath of God, show Christ in all I do
[Verse 3]
Holy Spirit, from creation’s birth
Giving life to all that God has made
Show your power once again on earth
Cause Your church to hunger for Your ways
Let the fragrance of our prayers arise
Lead us on the road of sacrifice
That in unity the face of Christ
Will be clear for all the world to see
HEIDELBERG CATECHISM #53, 21, 65, 70
(Bold questions (leader only), congregational confession)
#53. What do you believe concerning the Holy Spirit ?
First, that He is co-eternal God
with the Father and the Son.
Secondly, that He is also given unto me,
by true faith makes me a partaker of Christ
and all His benefits, comforts me
and shall abide with me forever.
#21. What is true faith?
True faith is not only a certain knowledge
whereby I hold for truth all that
God has revealed to us in His Word;
but also a hearty trust,
which the Holy Spirit works in me by the Gospel,
that not only to others, but to me also,
forgiveness of sins, everlasting righteousness
and salvation are freely given by God,
merely of grace,
only for the sake of Christ’s merits.
#65. Since then we are made partakers of Christ and all His benefits by faith only, from where comes this faith?
The Holy Spirit works faith in our hearts
by the preaching of the Holy Gospel,
and confirms it by the use of the Holy Sacraments.
#70. What is it to be washed with the blood and Spirit of Christ?
It is to have the forgiveness of sins from God
through grace, for the sake of Christ’s blood,
which He shed for us in His sacrifice on the cross;
and also, to be renewed by the Holy Spirit
and sanctified to be members of Christ, that so
we may more and more die unto sin
and lead holy and blameless lives.
SONG
Holy Spirit
[Verse]
There’s nothing worth more that could ever come close
No thing can compare, You’re our living hope
Your presence, Lord
I’ve tasted and seen of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free and my shame is undone
Your presence, Lord
[Chorus]
Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your presence, Lord
[Verse]
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
Let us become more aware of Your presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
[Chorus]

SERMON
“The Advocate”
John 14
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you
another Helper, to be with you forever,
17 even the Spirit of truth,
whom the world cannot receive,
because it neither sees him nor knows him.
You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans;
I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while and the world
will see me no more, but you will see me.
Because I live, you also will live.
20 In that day you will know that I am
in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them,
he it is who loves me.
And he who loves me will be loved by my Father,
and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord,
how is it that you will manifest yourself to us,
and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me,
he will keep my word,
and my Father will love him, and we will come
to him and make our home with him.
24 Whoever does not love me
does not keep my words.
And the word that you hear is not mine
but the Father’s who sent me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you
while I am still with you.
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
he will teach you all things and bring to
your remembrance all that I have said to you…
John 15
26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send
to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth,
who proceeds from the Father,
he will bear witness about me.
27 And you also will bear witness, because you
have been with me from the beginning…
John 16
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth:
it is to your advantage that I go away,
for if I do not go away,
the Helper will not come to you.
But if I go, I will send him to you…
13 When the Spirit of truth comes,
he will guide you into all the truth,
for he will not speak on his own authority,
but whatever he hears he will speak,
and he will declare to you
the things that are to come.
14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine
and declare it to you.
15 All that the Father has is mine;
therefore I said that he will take what is mine
and declare it to you.
John 14:16-26; 15:26-27; 16:7,13-15 (ESV)
SONG
Fullness
[Verse 1]
Fullness of eternal promise
Stirring in Your sons and daughters
Earth revealing heaven’s wonders
Spirit come, Spirit come
What You spoke is now unfolding
All Your children shall behold it
Dreams awaken in this moment
Spirit come, Spirit come
[Chorus]
Pour it out
Let Your love run over
Here and now
Let Your glory fill this house
[Verse 2]
Now the world awaits Your presence
And this power is within us
We will rise to be Your witness
Spirit come, Spirit come
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
Tongues of fire
testifying of the Son
One desire
Spirit come, Spirit come
Speak revival
prophesy like it is done
One desire
Spirit come, Spirit come
[Verse 3]
Let our hearts continue burning
For our King is soon returning
As we hold to this assurance
Spirit come, Spirit come
Spirit come, Spirit come
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
[Coda]
Let our hearts continue burning
For our King is soon returning
