PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:12-14

If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.
1 Corinthians 15:19

“If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that he said; if he didn’t rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what he said? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead.”
– Tim Keller

“A dead Christ I must do everything for; a living Christ does everything for me.”
– Andrew Murray

“Jesus’s resurrection is the beginning of God’s new project not to snatch people away from earth to heaven but to colonize earth with the life of heaven. That, after all, is what the Lord’s Prayer is about.”
– NT Wright

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP

For I know that my Redeemer lives,
and at the last he will stand upon the earth.
And after my skin has been thus destroyed,
yet in my flesh I shall see God,
whom I shall see for myself,
and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
    My heart faints within me!

Job 19:25-27

SONG

He Lives

[Verse 1]
See the tomb where He laid
See the stone rolled away
He is risen, He is risen
He’s alive

See His hands, see His feet
Touch His scars and believe
He is risen, He is risen
He’s alive

[Chorus]
He lives
All honor and power are His
All glory forever, amen
Jesus lives

[Verse 2]
Hear the shackles breaking free
Hear the song of the redeemed
He is moving, He is moving
He’s alive

So take this freedom, take this love
Can you feel it rising up
He is here, He is here
He’s alive

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
You took all our shame, left it in the grave
We’re forgiven, we’re forgiven
The work forever done, only by the blood
It is finished, it is finished

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

[Chorus]

SONG

Jesus Paid it All

[Verse 1]
I hear the Savior say
Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness, watch and pray
Find in Me thine all in all

[Chorus]
Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

[Verse 2]
Lord, now indeed I find
Thy power and Thine alone
Can change the leper’s spots
and melt the heart of stone

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete
“Jesus died my soul to save”
My lips shall still repeat

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
Oh Praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

BAPTISM

Do you acknowledge yourself to be a sinner in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope, except in His Sovereign mercy?

Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and depend upon Him alone for your salvation as He is offered in the Gospel?

Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as becomes a follower of Christ?

Do you promise to support the Church in its worship and work to the best of your ability?

Do you promise to submit yourself to the government and discipline of the church, and promise to pursue its peace and purity?

SONG

Resurrecting

[Verse 1]
The head that once was crowned with thorns
Is crowned with glory now
The Savior knelt to wash our feet
Now at His feet we bow

[Verse 2]
The One who wore our sin and shame
Now robed in majesty
The radiance of perfect love
Now shines for all to see

[Chorus]
Your name, Your name is victory
All praise, will rise to Christ our king
Your name, Your name is victory
All praise, will rise to Christ our king

[Verse 3]
The fear that held us now gives way
To Him who is our peace
His final breath upon the cross
Is now alive in me

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
By Your spirit I will rise
From the ashes of defeat
The resurrected King, is resurrecting me

In Your name I come alive
To declare Your victory
The resurrected King, is resurrecting me

[Verse 4]
The tomb where soldiers watched in vain
Was borrowed for three days
His body there would not remain
Our God has robbed the grave
Our God has robbed the grave

[Chorus]

[Bridge]

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Friday Night Study of Lamentations in Hermosa: Led by Chris Lau. “A whole book dedicated to regretful weeping, Lamentations is not an appendix to Scripture; it is Scripture. Lamentations is Scripture because lament is not taken on to our lives as something to be hidden.  It’s right out there in the middle. God chose not to hide the plaintive cries of the confused…Lament is an experience of everyone God is using to fulfill his covenant promises.” Join us in person as we do a 3-session study on the Book of Lamentations: 4/5, 4/19, and 5/3/24. SERMON
“Hope Stronger Than Death”
Mark 12:18-27

18 And Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection. And they asked him a question, saying, 19 “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no offspring. 21 And the second took her, and died, leaving no offspring. And the third likewise. 22 And the seven left no offspring. Last of all the woman also died. 23 In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.”
24 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26 And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You are quite wrong.”

SONG

Living Hope

[Verse 1]
How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke Your name into the night
Then through the darkness, Your lovingkindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope

[Verse 2]
Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The King of Kings calls me His own
Beautiful Savior, I’m Yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope

[Chorus]
Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

[Verse 3]
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus, Yours is the victory

[Chorus]

BENEDICTION

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

John 11:25-26
